Performance of the Open Campground System

This is a system with four main parts that determine its performance. These are the browser, the communication link, the database management system and the server.

First is the browser (usually Internet Explorer or Firefox). Some amount of time is used by the browser to render the items to be displayed. The contribution of the browser is hard to estimate but will primarily be determined by the speed of the processor and display system of the computer which is used as the user interface system.

The second portion is the communication link. This is between the browser and the server which may be on separate systems (as in Open Campground in the Cloud) or on the same system (as is usually the case with Open Campground on Windows). The time consumed in communication will be trivial and will usually be determined by the speed of the computer hosting the browser and (in the case of Open Campground in the Cloud) the performance of the link to the internet.

The third and fourth components of the mix are the server and the database management system. For these two combined we do have data collected from operational Open Campground in the Cloud systems. Using a set of data from servers operating on a Open Campground in the Cloud host with a a set of real campgrounds over a set of over 30,000 command executions, the following was recorded. Fifty per-cent of the displays were generated and sent out in less than .006 seconds per display. This includes both the database and the server contribution. Ninty per-cent of the displays were generated and sent out in less than .104 seconds per display and ninety nine per-cent of the displays were generated and sent out in less than 1 second per display. As you will see from looking at the demonstration and the documentation for the system, the complexity and volume of data displayed varies greatly from display to display which accounts for the majority of the time differences. No meaningful performance measure has been determined other than these statistics derived from analysis of the logs of actual use of the system over a period of time.
